Brewers tab righty Chase Anderson for Opening Day start

The Milwaukee Brewers have picked right-hander Chase Anderson to start on Opening Day on March 29 at San Diego.

The 30-year-old Anderson had the best season of his four-year career in 2017, going 12-4 with a 2.74 ERA in 25 starts. He will be making his first career opening day start when he takes the mound in San Diego.

He also praised the club for its efforts in helping the city of Houston overcome the damage caused last summer by Hurricane Harvey.

“After the devastating Hurricane Harvey, what you went through with Harvey, it was a befitting tribute, what was really a show of Houston Strong.”

Besides the president, several others spoke during Monday’s half-hour ceremony, including Astros owner Jim Crane, manager A.J. Hinch, GM Jeff Luhnow, and outfielder Josh Reddick, who presented Trump with a number 17 Astros jersey, in honor the 2017 championship. Although Trump is the country’s 45th chief executive and has been to known to wear dress shirts with “45” stitched on his cuffs, that number currently belongs to pitcher Gerrit Cole, whom the Astros acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Pirates in January.

“I believe that I’m going to come back better and stronger,” Porzingis said Tuesday in his first public comments since he suffered a torn left ACL in early February.

Porzingis said he has been progressing well since undergoing surgery on Feb. 13.

“[I’ve] been having a positive mindset this whole time and just going day by day, doing whatever I need to,” he said. “Every day is a little progress, a little something, and just moving forward and getting better every day with my knee.”

Porzingis said he was ‘shocked’ when he first learned that he’d torn his left ACL.
