Brewers tab righty Chase Anderson for Opening Day start

The Milwaukee Brewers have picked right-hander Chase Anderson to start on Opening Day on March 29 at San Diego.

The 30-year-old Anderson had the best season of his four-year career in 2017, going 12-4 with a 2.74 ERA in 25 starts. He will be making his first career opening day start when he takes the mound in San Diego.

He also praised the club for its efforts in helping the city of Houston overcome the damage caused last summer by Hurricane Harvey.

“After the devastating Hurricane Harvey, what you went through with Harvey, it was a befitting tribute, what was really a show of Houston Strong.”

Besides the president, several others spoke during Monday’s half-hour ceremony, including Astros owner Jim Crane, manager A.J. Hinch, GM Jeff Luhnow, and outfielder Josh Reddick, who presented Trump with a number 17 Astros jersey, in honor the 2017 championship. Although Trump is the country’s 45th chief executive and has been to known to wear dress shirts with “45” stitched on his cuffs, that number currently belongs to pitcher Gerrit Cole, whom the Astros acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Pirates in January.

“I believe that I’m going to come back better and stronger,” Porzingis said Tuesday in his first public comments since he suffered a torn left ACL in early February.

Porzingis said he has been progressing well since undergoing surgery on Feb. 13.

“[I’ve] been having a positive mindset this whole time and just going day by day, doing whatever I need to,” he said. “Every day is a little progress, a little something, and just moving forward and getting better every day with my knee.”

Porzingis said he was ‘shocked’ when he first learned that he’d torn his left ACL.

“I couldn’t believe that it happened to me. And then about 30 seconds Cheap Custom Hockey Jerseys later Cheap Blank Hockey Jerseys I said, ‘Ok what can I do now? Now it’s just time for me to make a comeback and focus on the next thing,'” he said.

Westbrook’s 100th triple-double, Thunder beats Hawks 119-107

Russell Westbrook picked up the 100th triple-double of his career and the Oklahoma City Thunder used a 16-0 run late in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Atlanta Hawks for a 119-107 victory Tuesday night.

Prince led the Hawks with 25 points.

Thunder: Paul George went down hard on a foul in the third quarter, landing on his hip, and didn’t play at all in the final period. He finished with 12 points. … Center Steven Adams sat out the game with a left hip contusion. Dakari Johnson started in his place but played only seven minutes, scoring three points with two rebounds.

Hawks: Coach Mike Budenholzer received a technical foul for complaining about a no-call late in the first quarter. He took several steps onto the court, continuing to gripe, until referee Nick Buchert finally cut him off: Mike, you’ve made your point. … The Hawks outrebounded the Thunder 47-28. … Damion Lee had 13 points in his NBA debut after signing a 10-day contract earlier in the day.

The Lakers’ entire season has been designed to prove their young core of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and probably Randle could fit splendidly around James, Paul George or DeMarcus Cousins — or failing that, the top free agents in the class of 2019.

The Lakers’ exciting performance against Cleveland underlined that notion, for whatever it’s worth in James’ mind.

We’re just connecting at both ends, and we’re able to really establish the way that we want to play, Randle said. It’s been great.

And Los Angeles didn’t even show off the full scope of its young talent: Ball Cheap Atlanta Braves Jerseys struggled with his shot on the way to seven assists and five points, while Cheap Barcelona Jerseys top scorer Ingram missed his fifth straight game with a groin strain and rookie Josh Hart remained out with a broken hand.

Mike Smith rejoins Flames for practice but unsure of return to game action

With the Flames slipping out of playoff contention, goalie Mike Smith would prefer nothing more than to be back in net for Calgary’s next game, at Buffalo.

Knowing that’s not in the cards, Smith settled on accepting the next step in recovering from a lower body injury by practicing with the Flames for the first time in nearly a month on Tuesday.

“It’s the worst feeling as a guy who wants to be in there every game and wants to help the team win,” Smith said after taking part in an optional practice a day before Calgary plays the Sabres.

“A piece of you feels like you’re letting the team down by sitting there and watching,” he added. “That’s the sucky part of the position and the sport. But that’s part of the deal. So you’ve got to deal with it.”

The Flames could use any type of boost after having gone 0-3-1 in their past four following a 4-3 overtime loss at Pittsburgh on Monday. And they’re 3-6-2 while allowing 40 goals in 11 games since Smith was hurt.

“It’s not necessarily working on the fly balls. It’s all the little things: working on the wall balls and my footwork, charging ground balls, communication. Things like that. I think it will come back pretty quickly, and we still have plenty of time to get there.”

While it’s natural to assume that the weight gain might put a strain on Myers’ legs, he’s more concerned about the state of his throwing arm. Myers focused on speed work during the offseason and thinks his jumps and outfield coverage could benefit as a result. But he arrived in camp with a first baseman’s arm, and he’ll spend the next few weeks focusing on lengthening out and getting greater extension on his throws.

Dave Roberts, now the Dodgers’ manager, tutored Myers on the art of center-field play in 2015. Now Padres coach Skip Schumaker is overseeing his transition to right. Myers, who can be searingly candid in interviews, concedes that boredom and inactivity in the outfield are a Cheap Barcelona Jerseys potential issue Cheap Authentic Baseball Jerseys after being in the middle of the action at first base.
